The 200 years is excessive, yes. Based on Dateline's To Catch a Predator series, or whatever it's called, every man in America is involved in child porn. (Let's hope my last sentence was ridiculously exaggerated.) I guess it might take tough sentencing to convince some of them to STOP. I wish more people would get arrested for child molestation, so they aren't available to hurt more children. For instance, some of those 1500 people that that former child porn victim wrapped up and handed to the FBI in a gift box. Why aren't they getting arrested and getting sentenced?
As for the Rhode Island dude, he only has to serve 4 years. For such an egregious act of negligence resulting in so many deaths, I think he got off easy.
prison should be for separating dangerous people from society. the r.i. guy is not dangerous and he's been scapegoated and that's really annoying. on the child porn guy: what the state is doing to him is a far, far worse crime..
I want to know if the Rhode Island night club manager/owner gave him permission to use the pyrotechnics, because, if so, then I think the lack of permit warrants a slap on the wrist. And on the Cortez teacher ... did he have the child porn materials with him at school? That's disgusting. -d
A.) Neil made the post, not me. Secondly, I think 200 years is excessive for having a picture of an adolescent engaging in inappropriate dress/activities, or whatever. To print out and ogle such images reflects immaturity, lack of respect and lack of judgment, but I think "Get a life" is a more apt sentence than 200 years in jail. If he was looking at said pictures at school and/or showing them to students/faculty, then all sorts of laws have been violated and there is a stronger case for extended jail time. But the story does not specify any charges related to a school setting, so I wonder how his penchant was discovered. -d

Diana are you saying that a 200 year prison sentence is EXCESSIVE for the crime of child porn involvement or excessive in general?

What do you think about RIchard Hatch and 51 months in jail? You were a true fan, N.
